It is finished.

John 19:30

“So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished.’ And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.”

It is finished. Three words say it all. I could stop writing now, because all that needs to be said has been said. It is finished.

I’m not going to stop writing. Unlike Jesus, when I say something is finished, I always seem to find something else that needs to be changed or added on or adjusted. It is finished, and then I do a spell check. It is finished, and then I double-check the measurements. It is finished, except now I realize that pea green doesn’t look good in the living room.

When our Lord was hanging on a tree, bearing our iniquities as Scripture prophesized, and He drank the sour wine, He spoke the words it is finished. It is done. It’s over, that’s all she wrote. His purpose had been fulfilled. He died for your sins and mine. He took away the sins of the world forevermore. It is finished.

There are still so many people living their life with no understanding of what Christ did for us. We don’t understand the concept of, “It is finished.” We are a people of improvements. We want to improve our home, our vehicle, our finances, our spouse, our children, etc. Whatever we have in life, we want to make it better. We want more. When Jesus spoke the words, “It is finished,” He meant it.

He died so that we could have life everlasting. When Adam disobeyed the Lord, the wage for that disobedience was death. No longer, could any of us escape that debt. Our fellowship with God was gone. That is, until Jesus came. Jesus Christ paid that debt for us. He has ransomed Himself so that death no longer holds us in its grasp. It is finished.

Understanding and believing what Christ did for you is the most important decision you will ever make. Period. Hands down, the most important decision you can make. Once we pass on from this life, it is finished. We don’t get to make that decision after this life. Do you know the day you’re going to die? The hour? The minute? The very second? Do you? I don’t. I can’t stress enough the importance of this decision. You may be putting it off until tomorrow, till you see hard evidence, but the truth is, tomorrow may never come for you! By putting off this major decision, you are risking eternal separation from God, eternal life in hell.

There is nobody on this earth that is capable of loving you the way Jesus Christ loves you. He IS love. Your husband, wife, children, or parents cannot come close to that kind of love. He pours out His grace and mercy upon you and forgives you in a way that is not possible for human beings. He is God Almighty, He is the Great I AM, He is the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you have been waiting to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, I urge you to read the following verses, admit that you are a sinner, repent of your sins, and cry out to the Lord, believing that only through Him, can you be saved. By the time I end this message, I will have written the words “It is finished” thirteen times. Jesus Christ said the words “It is finished” one time. When He spoke, it truly was finished.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”[1]

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”[2]

“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…”[3]

“…that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”[4]

“…I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”[5]

“…I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”[6]

Praise the Lord for His Mightiness!
